The challenge
Many Councils face significant challenges in managing their waste service requests and customer updates efficiently. The lack of integration between their systems and waste management service providers, such as Cleanaway, often results in manual handling of request updates. This manual process is time-consuming, prone to errors, and does not provide real-time status updates, leading to delays and inefficiencies in service delivery. Additionally, some service providers do not support returning a scheduled date/time for requests, further complicating the process.
The solution
Avec stepped in to address these challenges by implementing a comprehensive integration solution between TechnologyOne Request Management and Cleanaway. Utilising the Cleanaway API, Avec configured outbound requests to be sent directly to Cleanaway, automating the process and reducing manual intervention. This solution consisted of creating an authentication type for secure API connections, configuring system variables, and developing custom scripts to handle multiple aliases for requests involving both re-use and recycle bins.
Avec also enhanced out of the box scripts to address challenges around population and bin size data types, ensuring accurate and efficient data handling. The street number and type challenges were improved, and the bin size was redefined to accommodate decimal values. Furthermore, Avec set up a service account and user profile to manage inbound responses from Cleanaway, ensuring a seamless and secure data exchange.
The results
This integration solution developed by Avec resulted in significant improvements for Council. The automated outbound request process resulted in streamlined operations, reduced errors, and saves time for staff. The custom scripts ensure accurate data handling, and the secure API connections maintains data integrity. The inbound response feature, now working in production, further enhanced the system by providing real-time updates and improving overall efficiency.
