We are pleased to announce Anthony Tockar will be joining Avec as Practice Lead – Data & AI.
Prior to this, Anthony was the Director at Verge Labs, an AI company focused on the applied side of machine learning. He also is the Co-Founder of The Minerva Collective, a not-for-profit focused on using data for social good. He was able to grow the volunteer community to almost 1000 members, and helped multiple charities solve important problems. He also operates and facilitates multiple meetup groups, such as the Sydney Data Science Breakfast meetup and Data Visualisation Sydney, and more recently has been instrumental in founding the Sydney AI Hub.
Anthony will work alongside Avec team members and its Managing Director, Dennis Grant, making use of Avec’s unique capability across resourcing, SME-squared partners and project delivery to grow the Data & AI practice and ensure quality delivery for our clients.

In 2014, Anthony’s article, “Riding with the Stars: Passenger Privacy in the NYC Taxicab Dataset”, earned him a citation in The Economist, and received plaudits from several leaders in data protection. He has since qualified as a Certified Information Privacy Professional (Europe) and Certified Information Privacy Manager with the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
At Verge Labs, he developed IMpLy, a framework for understanding machine learning models similar to Google’s What-If tool, and recently launched Oversight.ai, a world-first framework to help businesses implement ethical data practices. He also performed much of the early work to help Volt Bank put together their ethical data principles, including a set of recommendations for how to bring them to life.
